Evelyn Izquierdo
Hi! My name is Evelyn Izquierdo. Learning languages is one of my passions. I studied English, French and a little bit of Italian (just one year) several years ago. I graduated as an English teacher from Universidad Pedagógica Experimental Libertador (UPEL-Barquisimeto) in 1989, and obtained a master's degree in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) from Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV) in 2001. Since 1988, I have had the opportunity to teach at all educational levels, from young children to adults, in private and public institutions, as well as in language academies offering on-site and in-company classes.
I started working at the UCV in 1996, and since then I have taught English for Specific Purposes (ESP) at the Literature, Philosophy and Education Schools.
I have been working for the School of Education during the last 10 years and have worked in the different programs offered there: Anual, EUS and Componente Docente.
I am currently teaching English II to undergraduate students who belong to the Componente Docente program, which is addressed to students who come from differents faculties and schools of the UCV and want to major in Education.
Besides teaching at the School of Education, I teach graduate students who take the EFL master's program , and also offer ESP reading courses for graduate students who take specializations, masters, and doctorate programs at the Humanities and Education Faculty (FHE). I have been doing this for the last 5 years. I also design, administrate and correct the English proficiency tests for prospect graduate students at the FHE.
Another passion I have is exploring ICT tools and incorporate them into my English classes. It is always exciting to see how my students enjoy learning the language while they develop their tech skills. This is the first time I use a Wiki with them, and I hope for the best. We are planning to create e-portfolios for the text types unit. I'm eager to start.
During my "free" time, I love traveling along with my family, listening to music, going to the movies, and teaching in-company Spanish classes.
